Fighting the mold on Brisbane windows!
02/06/11 17:36
Over the year or so, Brisbane has been on the road to recovery in terms of the drought. It has been a little extreme of late, the floods have affected many of our customers and some of our friends. With all this water, there has been very little time for things to dry out. That’s not to say we haven’t had the heat of summer, and with temperatures in the mid thirties it’s no wonder we seem to find mold growing everywhere.
Mold grows on the inside of our windows because of a few different things. Sometimes it can be the constant changing temperature of the glass, creating condensation which then forms mold. Using an air conditioning unit excessively can also create unnatural temperature differences on surfaces in your home to that of outside, causing condensation, then mold. For most it’s just the humidity in Brisbane, it’s a perfect environment for mold to grow. To help prevent it, you can try to reduce the humidity in your home. Ensure you use a vent in your kitchen and bathrooms to extract moisture from the air, fix any leaking plumbing and open your windows to allow fresh air to circulate throughout your home.
The main reason that you need to get rid of mold is for your own health, and that of your family. Mold spores inhaled can cause allergic responses such as hayfever. If you are asthmatic, mold is a likely trigger for attacks. For some people with lower immune systems and some elderly people, exposure to mold can cause respiratory infections with mold attaching to the tissue in the lungs and respiratory tract.

This isn’t the best example, but you can clearly see the black spots on this glass. This was one of the better windows in this particular house.

New Signage for the new van
21/05/11 13:04
We have applied the new signage to the van and it looks great! Thanks to StickerArt stickerart.com.au for supplying it so quickly.

New van delivered!
13/05/11 16:00
After almost 3 years of dedicated service, our beloved big red van has gone. The inspiration for the name of our business, Ivan the Iveco has retired and given way to a much younger model, Fi the Fiat. I know, we have changed to a white van, but no we won’t be changing the name of our business. We’re still ‘big red’ all the way.
Wayne from StickerArt has already got our new signage in the mail and we’ll apply it during the week.

When will the rain end
11/10/10 13:00
Wow! What a downpour this last week.
Soon we’ll have our DI unit and waterfed pole system in action and this won’t be an issue for us in the future. The only reason we’re not out there cleaning windows on the 2 storey houses at the moment is for safety. Ladder work in this weather just isn’t worth the risk, but when we use waterfed poles, we’ll be able to scrub your windows using PURE WATER, leaving none of those nasty mineral deposits or dirt residue on the glass.

Pure Water... !
27/09/10 17:23
We’re getting PURE WATER!
That’s right, we’ve decided to get ourselves a little piece of kit that turns Brisbane’s hard water into pure mineral and dirt free water.
“What does that mean for me?” You ask. Well, it means we’ll be able to reach those really tricky and hard to reach windows with our water fed pole. And using pure water, we’ll scrub them clean without leaving nasty mineral deposits behind. What we are really saying is that Big Red Window Cleaning will be able to do more for window cleaning in Brisbane soon.
No more crazy ladder stunts like this...

Glass protection
22/09/10 14:00
Ok, so for the last 12 months, we’ve been cleaning pool fence glass for Jimmy Bahama Pools & Landscaping. They have a very efficient team and in those 12 months, we’ve not encountered much soiling of glass. On other pool fences, we generally come across a lot of over spread of sealant and muck from when tiles near the pool fence glass have been washed and sealed.
The last couple of jobs we’ve done have been a little tougher. A combination of factors including splash from the pool meant that mineral deposits and other muck was already on the glass immediately next to the pool. What to do? We are now using a product that leaves a protective coating on the glass! Now when we go to do the final clean after the rest of the landscaping and other works are done, the glass will be easier to clean, and more importantly, look better.

Celebrating our first brithday

Big Red Window Cleaning turns 1 !
It might not seem like a big deal, but it’s very much a huge milestone for us. It’s been a tough 12 months, and probably not the best time to go into business, however, I can happily say that we’re here to stay and very happy about it.
I just did the math and coincidently, we just cleaned the the windows in our 100th house, on Friday last week. And over the last year, we’ve also done an 2 apartment complexes with over 150 units between them, a Church hall, a car yard and many more businesses that have supported us so far. Thanks to all of them.

The guys at Sticker Art did a great job of our signage. The big red van looks a lot better, and the 1300 BIG RED really stands out.
